Conviasa is Venezuela's state-owned national airline, operating as the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela's official flag carrier and providing international air service during a period when Venezuela's aviation sector has been significantly impacted by economic and political challenges. Headquartered in Caracas and operating from Simón Bolívar International Airport, Conviasa serves international routes to Latin America, the Caribbean, and select destinations beyond the hemisphere under agreements with countries that maintain strong ties with Venezuela. The airline was founded as an alternative to the then-dominant Aeropostal and as part of the Venezuelan government's broader Bolivarian social mission to provide affordable transportation for Venezuelan citizens.

Conviasa has faced significant operational challenges related to Venezuela's economic situation, US sanctions, and the broader difficulties of maintaining an international airline in an environment of currency controls and import restrictions on spare parts and fuel. Despite these challenges, Conviasa continues to provide air service on routes where Venezuelan travelers need government-supported connectivity, including routes to Cuba, Russia, Bolivia, Iran, and other countries that maintain cooperative relationships with Venezuela's government.
