About Binter Canarias
Binter Canarias is the dominant interisland airline of the Canary Islands — the Spanish archipelago off the northwest coast of Africa — providing the essential air connections between seven inhabited Canary Islands that make daily life, commerce, and tourism in the archipelago possible. Without Binter's network of frequent interisland flights, the Canary Islands' dispersed population would face enormous practical difficulties in accessing medical care, business meetings, government services, and family connections across an island group spread over 450 kilometers of Atlantic Ocean. Binter Canarias was established by Iberia in 1988 and has operated as the virtual monopoly interisland carrier since then, providing hundreds of weekly rotations between the seven islands — Gran Canaria, Tenerife (both TFN and TFS airports), Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro.
The airline operates a fleet of ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft — ideally suited to the short, island-hop distances and diverse runway lengths of the archipelago's airports. Beyond its Canarian heartland, Binter also operates routes between the Canary Islands and mainland Spain (Madrid, Málaga, Seville) and selected North African and West African destinations including Mauritania, Senegal, and Cape Verde. As a vital public service operator on thinner routes under PSO obligations, Binter receives regulatory support to maintain affordable fares on essential interisland connections.
