Virgin Australia is Australia's second-largest airline and the country's primary full-service alternative to Qantas, operating domestic Australian routes and international services from its hub at Brisbane Airport alongside major bases at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. Carrying the Virgin brand's heritage of challenging incumbents and providing better value and service, Virgin Australia competes directly with Qantas on most major Australian routes. After its 2020 collapse and subsequent acquisition by Bain Capital, Virgin Australia has been repositioning as a premium economy airline — neither a pure LCC like Jetstar nor a full-service carrier like Qantas mainline — targeting the middle market with competitive pricing and genuine service quality.

The airline operates an all-Boeing 737 MAX and 737-800 fleet domestically and a small number of Airbus A330 aircraft on international routes.
